7th Sea Adventure

Island Cleanup

In the midst of all of the action surrounding the caves the crew left near the beach is being lead by the strong personality of Jean Luc Versai. He is organizing people into groups, cleaning up the remainder of the housing near the beach as well as getting people to check out the farming areas to see what needs to be done to them.

Through the forest they can hear a man running and screaming at them. Everyone is pensive and concerned for the brief moment, concerned he is the escaped pirate, before he breaks the treeline. There is a quick recognition of his benchmate and everyone’s fears are relieved. He then runs towards the group. Once there it takes him just a second to regain composure. Once he is able to speak coheriently, he informs the group the need for a doctor at the caves, one of the women in unconcious and bleeding from major cuts all over her body.

Jean Luc takes charge of the group and decides the caves seem to provide most security for the group. He encourages everyone to pick up all they can carry and head to the caves. A small group of men grumble about, fed up with continually being bossed around, doing nothing just sitting around. Jean Luc tries his hardest to convince these men the caves are the better place to be and being left along could spell disaster for them. Finally, after a little convincing the group gets up and starts walking, but none of them are carrying anything, just themselves up the pathway to the caves.

At this point, Jean Luc, has had enough of this foolishness and chooses what he thinks is the best way to handle the situation. He drops all he is carrying, runs towards the group of men while drawing his rapier, and stabs one of the grumbling group through the back, puncturing the kidney. He then informs the remainder of the group that anyone not carrying their own will be punished in the same way. The remainder of the dissenters head back down the path to the beach and each pick up minimal loads.

Jean Luc still frusterated, but seeing they are “helping” leads the group back towards the caves. Most of the way up the mountain in a small cervase they have to traverse, the group starts hearing a rumbling sound. This continues to get louder, until one of the group realizes it is a rockslide. The group hurries through the remainder of the area and most escape by the skin of their teeth. The small group unwilling to actually carry anything had slowly drug behind the group, and were unable to escape the rockslide.

Jean Luc takes advantage of this and informs those surviving, “this is what comes of those who provide nothing for the group and only look out for themselves.” This rant continues for a while, but for the most part it encourages those remaining. The remainder of the trek to the caves is plesant without any issues and the group arrives safely.

From here the doctor starts taking care of the injured women, while Jean Luc has to try and explain himself to Hallbjorn. Once they work through their differences in command, they focus on making the arriving group comfortable and housed within the rooms in the caves. Hallbjorn divides out takes for everyone, from cleaning to cooking, and everything in between. Jean Luc joins in, but soon hears of a locked door said to be cursed, and everyone attempting it will become consumed with opening it until either they succeed or they die from dehydration.

Jean Luc sees this as a challenege, he then decides that instead of putting himself in the line of fire he will find someone else with some skill to attempt the lock. They are able to find someone interested in the task, but before he is able to be quickly rushed over for an attempt Hallbjorn steps in and make sure the guy is fully aware of the situation. Jean Luc has convinced this guy so wholeheartedly, Hallbjorn’s words fall short and the man fall headlong into the challenege.

Once at the door the man gives the lock a quick look over, pulls out his lockpicks, and attempts the lock. Miraculously he is able to line up all of the tumblers and the latch disengages. The door, still closed is now open for anyone to enter. Jean Luc being the most warry stands to the side of the door, “shielding” the onlookers. Hallbjorn gets feed up and opens the door quickly, using the door as a shield against any potential traps. The door swings freely without incident and the room is open to them.

The two of them enter and search the room, but all that is found is a very ornatly dressed room with some ornate clothing in the drawers. Jean Luc’s big idea of lots of gold was smashed and leaves frusterated.

They then clean up the remainder of the caves and go looking for the run away pirate. Near the wall where they found the hand, they find a secret entrance to a tunnel system. In exploring the tunnels they find it is shaped like a wagon wheel with 6 spokes and 3 rings. Each closer ring has nicer and bigger rooms, with the outer ring having 10′ × 10′ rooms and a total of 150, the next ring 15′ × 15′ and a total of 75, the inner ring 20′ × 20′ and a total of 25 rooms and the final rooms just off the center of the wheel having the largest at 25′ × 25′. All of the rooms are completely bare having nothing, but the inner 4 rooms have a 4 unique statues carved out of the floor and streatching to the ceiling.

They find a back entrance to the tunnels leading to the moutains and Hallbjorn and Jean Luc continue their search sending everyone else back into the caves. Once out of the tunnels and on top of the moutain they are able to see a small thin smoke trail ahead of them. they proceed to investigate, having a minor mishap, but arrive at the location no more than a little bruised from the fall.

The two slowly creep up to the treeline and look towards the smoke trail. They see a very small campfire at the mouth of a dark cave. Jean Luc takes the initiative and starts moving silently across the clearing towards the cave entrance; careful not to make any sound. The seconds tick by, turning to minutes, but finally, he is able to move close enough to see the pirate must be farther in the cave. Jean Luc motions to Hallbjorn, who moves quickly to the entrance as “quietly” as able.

The pair the moves into the caves, Jean Luc leading the way with Hallbjorn keeping his distance to avoid making a sound.

The Aftermath

Once the dust settles and the women are taken care of Hallbjorn and Rickard gather the women up and discuss their captivity. One of the women is less phased with the situation and more responsive gives the two men a breakdown of what has happened and how they ended up there.

The two women were stowaways on a ship leaving castille. They had escaped from the bastion, with their very lives. The are fugitives running from the inqusition. They were both hunted because tey are both of noble bloodlines and the magic involved within them.

One of the women was Vodacce, the other Vendel. Comrades of the same nationalitity peak Hallbjorn’s interest and he provides special protection for the Vendel women. After verifying hostages were ok, they then turn their sights on the two unconscious men. They are bound in the same shackles as the women until a better holding cell can be found.

The remainder of the facility is searched. A few hostages were found here and there as they searched but everything was a expected. As they continue around the curve of the hallway they find another room filled with only one man enough medical supplies to triage an army. The door is barred from the outside and the man inside very timid. Hallbjorn takes it upon himself to free this man. He lifts the bar and opens the door, but even still the man does not come out or even but seems interested in these few men standing in front of motioning him out of the room. He is still not very interested in leaving but does show some interest in what is happening. Hallbjorn pulls the door off the hindges and places it against the the opposite wall in the hallway. He then stands back and allows the man to exit the room.

Slowly and with great care the man moves towards the door, ever wary of the injured expected. Once the man is out of the room, Hallbjorn tries communicating with him, but it is useless. The language barrier is too far gapped. Hallbjorn turns to one of the men helping explore the place and has him go and find Rickard for translation. After a few minutes Rickard shows up and provides translation for the situation. They are then able to find out about the man and his incarceration.

After much back and forth between the prisoner, Rickard, as translator, and Hallbjorn. The prisoner is able to provide the men with a detailed account of his imprisionment and what he was forced to do for the pirates and their captain. Mainly he was to treat and heal any pirate that entered into his room. Anytime they died in his care, even if it wasn’t his fault or beyond his skill as a doctor, they would withold food and water. There were several times he nearly died because of the number of pirates dying due to fighting or brawls. Finally, they are able to get a name, Domingo, out of the man.

After they were able to reassure Domingo they were the rescue party never expected, they decide it would be wise to move both of the prisioner pirates to the doctors prision and provide medical treatment so they are able to find out anything useful about the island as well there location in relation to the rest of the world.

They are able to move the prisoners with ease and have the doctor work towards trying to revive these men. One impossible, the other slowly regains consciousness and they are able to interrogate him. At first he was unwilling to provide any assistance, but through slow prodding they are able to get him to loosen his tongue a little bit. After not obtaining much information they then inform the prisioner they were getting nowhere and without his full attention and responsivness the vodacce women would be able to have a talk with him. Instantly his attention refocused and he provided all of the information they were wanting. Including the purpose of this place and why they were there.

Once all of the information had been obtained the prisoner askes if he can be released with a small boat to sail away, Hallbjorn just slowly turns away, allowing in Clarissa to “acquire” any addtional information. The prisoners eyes widen as the vodaccee fate weaver enters into the room. Terror fills his voice as he screams, begging for sort of release. Hallbjorn continues on shutting the door behind him to muffle the screams.

In the room, Clarissa slowly lays out her cards. Each one connected to a string in the man’s life. Once all parts of the man’s past, present and future are layed out in front of her she closes her eyes concentrates on the world around her. Slowly, she reaches up, grabbing an invisible thread in the air, and slowly pulling, the card attached slowly slides across the floor. She continues to pull until the string is stretched taught. At this point she pinches the line with her other hand severing the connection. Screaming ensues as the man clutches his head.

Clarissa then grabs another and another, slowly muttering about the man’s past, “your first love, now who was that again?”, “could you let me know your mother’s name?”, “what about your youngest sister?”.

The man taught hard, but the more threads she broke the more he forgot and the more ties to all of humanity and the gods were broken. Finally, after the final thread is broken she stands up, her own blood covering herself, and staggers from the room. Once outside she collapses at the feet of Hallbjorn.

Seeing her injuries he quickly runs to the room where she was and finds the man, still bound, but squirming to get free. The eyes of the prisoner vacant, but as Hallbjorn runs into the room the head of the prisoner turns and struggles more violently to break free. Hallbjorn stares at the horrific sight. After a time, the prisoners arms are starting to wear through, exposing bone. There seems to be no pain response from the prisoner.

Hallbjorn decides to end this man’s suffering. He unshealths his sword and with one mighty swing he beheads the prisoner. Instead of the movement in the body stopping, it increases 10 fold. He then turns his blade to the body. Severing all parts from the torso, then cleaving the torso in half as well. This only increases the frenzy because now the body parts that have been loosed from the binding are all acting with a singular purpose, to escape.

One of the hands scurries from the room and down the hallway, Hallbjorn in pursuit. He discovers the hand next to a smooth wall trying to hop up and place a certain hand posture into the wall, but is unable to get the height needed. Hallbjorn is able to gather together all of the escaped body parts and throws them into a hastily created fire, destroying all remains of the rejected corpse.

Opening Night

Traveling through the seas even during good weather is risky to say the least. There is always the danger of pirate attacks, sea monsters, mutiny, and disease. This was the case for the explorer’s society vessel the Vestal. They started there journey 2 weeks ago and had a pleasant journey.

Suddenly there was a scream from the crows nest. Sails on the horizon. Concerns of pirates, brigands, privateers, and inquisitors flashed through the heads of the crew. Minutes passed, seeming like hours, waiting on the crows nest to indentify the flag the ship would be sailing. Finally, the sailor scream, “pirates!!!” The crew immediately became a bustling frenzy of movement doing everything in there power to increase the speed of their ship.

Time seemed to stretch on forever as no distanced was gain by the pirate vessel, but none lost either. All of the sudden the wind fails and the pirate ship begins gaining. The Vestal starts loading cannons full of round shot firing them, in the hopes they are able to sink the pirate ship before they are boarded. It seems like nothing has the ability to stop the ship heading directly for the Vestal.

As they get closer the crew can hear the whips cracking against the backs of the slaves rowing the oars on the pirate ship. Finally, a crash and the cracking of wood as the pirate ship slams into the starboard side of the ship, sending several crew man overboard. The pirates quickly start boarding killing or disabling all those who stand in there way.

After all crew have been disabled, thrown overboard, or killed the pirates ransack the ship taking all of the valuables they can grab. Once they have completed their task and gather new slaves for rowing they scuttle the ship.

Weeks pass as Hallbjorn and Rickard are forced to row the ship, stripped of all their belongings and left only with a loin cloth for comfort. Whipped continually as they fail to row or punished simply for the enjoyment of the sadistic slave driver, they work towards exhaustion.

One evening, the ship’s slave driver, with an evil grin states they are returning home and they will have plenty of work for the slaves once they have landed on shore. He then leaves and joins in the merriment of the crew on the main deck, rejoicing and indulging in their spoils. Hallbjorn hears the ruckus above and decides it is now or never for the escape. He snaps the oar in half, then over his knee freeing his hands and providing several impressive weapons. Unfortunately for the man sitting next to him, the oar was more than he had the strength to hold and was ripped out of the oar hole, leaving behind huge amounts of gore because of the shackled feet.

Hallbjorn then is able to successfully free Rickard, saving his row mate, before hey can hear drunken staggering down the stairs towards the rowing deck. He is able to move quickly and quietly enough up to the door before the man makes it down the stairs. Once the man walks through the door two oar handles are slammed into the back of his head and he stumbles forward. He is able to recover slightly before he is pinned by Hallbjorn. Rickard is able to take advantage of this and kicks the slave driver several times between the legs before he finally falls unconscious. Hallbjorn then breaks both his hands, takes the slave drivers broadsword, and tosses him to the slaves still chained amongst the oars.

Hallbjorn, gathers himself together, frees a few more captives, and heads up the stairs. Looking out onto the deck he is able to see absolute chaos. Several groups of pirates were in all out brawls with each other. A body is sprawled out in front of them. A quick glance above shows that he had decided it was a good idea to take a leap from the crow’s nest, plunge his scimitar into the sail and make a quick trip down. Unfortunately the sword bound up part way down and the pirate fell to his death.

Seconds after they made it to the deck one of the closest groups had one of the deckhands pull a sword from an officers belt and start running away from the mob, only to be cleaved in half by Hallbjorn. The mob rushes the two, Hallbjorn charges into the fray leaving Rickard defenseless, itching to fight with nothing on. He sees a nearby dead pirate, hurries over, removes the pants and then starts to put them on. Being nude for the past week has taken its toll and he will do anything and everything to make sure that he is wearing at least pants.

Rickard takes matters into his own hands heads up the rigging and for the sword bound in the sail. He is able to shimmy up there, swing towards the sail and grab the blade of the sword, cutting his hands. Rickard is somehow able to keep a hold of the rigging and pulls the sword from the sail. In trying to keep a hold of both the sword falls towards the deck, plunging headlong into the deck planks. In climbing down he is able start swinging on the rigging and uses the momentum to try to pull the sword from the deck. This fails nearly pulling his shoulder out of socket.

After landing, Rickard is finally able to pull the sword from the deck just in time to see Hallbjorn finish clean up the mess in front of him. The two then head towards the other side of the ship, killing all of the pirates they encounter. After they have moved through the blood and gore of the deck, they move through the crew’s sleeping area.

Most of the pirates, having indulged themselves to blackouts, lay sleeping in various positions around the room. Some were able to stumble into their bunks, but many were simple sprawled around the floor. Rickard takes it upon himself to rid the world of these scum. As he moves through the room, you can hear his blade slicing across the necks of these hapless individuals.

The progress onwards towards the hold of the ship, make a quick tally of their lost gear. In the middle of this, they hear shouts, screams, and very load thumping like something is hitting the deck with serious force. They head towards the noise, hoping to be able to dispatch any additional pirates they may have missed along the way. As the breach the exit onto the deck, they see a huge sea serpent, battling the few pirates remaining, the captain included.

Hallbjorn, look at the situation and decides it is better if he doesn’t get involved and if there is anything left of the serpent when the remaining pirates are gone, then he will do what he needs to at that point. Rickard, on the other hand sees the captain wearing all of his “fancy” clothes, decides he will do anything needed to protect his clothing. He heads towards the serpent and pirates and joins the fight.

In a matter of seconds the serpent has killed all pirates with the exception of the captain, who is holding his own. The captain makes one final plunge towards the snake with his rapier, burying he sword to the hilt into the snakes head. The snake recoils, pulling the captain with it into the depths of the ocean, Rickard’s cloths in tow.

Hallbjorn seizes the opportunity to cut off the head of oen of the pirates looking the most like the captain and head down to the slave galley. Once down there is gets everyone’s attention stating that it was him who killed the captain and he was the new captain of the ship. He frees a few more, then gives them the means to start freeing others. Upstairs he heads again, taking a nail and hammer and attaching the “captains” head to the main mast for all to see.

They then steer the ship to the closest piece of land, that just so happens to be the pirates own personal island. The circle the island once, then head into a small cove with a sandy beach. Once they have anchored the boat, they take several dingy to shore. The group explores all they can before nightfall, finding nothing interesting, and then makes camp. During the night there is a huge sleet storm, everyone huddles for cover along the tree line. After a horrible and uncomfortable night, they strike out again to finish exploring the island. Several things of note are some fruit trees on the south side of the island, and in the middle near a river there have been some crops that have been grown.

The only other interesting find on the island was a cave. Seeming carved from the rock, but not with any tools known to man. The group slowly enters the cave, working there was through the corridors, lit by small lanterns on the walls. Eventually, they come to a Y. They choose the right and work themselves along it slowly, venturing in to any rooms they come across. As they make there way down this side of the Y, they start to hear screams from lady. They continue at a more cautious pace, until they start to see a large cavern ahead. Peaking inside, they see 4 men around a table eating lunch, and they can hear screaming from a women on the other side of natural cavern curtain.

Hallbjorn take matters into his own hands and runs towards the 4 men eating dinner, throws the table up into the man across the table. The table knocks a man into the fire with the table on top of him. The screams from under the table are nearly unbearable combined with the stench of burning flesh. The 2 of the guys turn and run with no worry about there friend they are leaving behind. The last guy, completely in shock, just sits as Hallbjorn knocks him out.

Meanwhile, Rickard is looking around the corner to see about the women’s screams. There is a single pirate having his way with a women chained to the wall, with another women chain next to her cowering in the corner. Hallbjorn then comes barreling around the corning grabbing the guy by the hair, pulling him backwards, and slamming his head into the wall. They then take care of the two women, covering them with clothing, and helping them out of their shackles.
